RAISE A QUESTION

ASK WILL

Q. How can avoid loss of hair around the hair line when braiding?

Loss of hair around the hair line in women can be avoided. In most cases it is caused when the hair has been braided too tightly as this exerts pressure on the hair follicles. If this is persistent, scar tissue will form and the hair follicles will disappear. If you follow these three simple rules it will help prevent permanent hair loss.

Do not braid hair immediately after relaxing
Ensure your hair is long enough to braid
Do not pull braids too tight – there should be no pain during or after the braiding process. If there is take the braids out immediately.

Q. Do you have any advice for removing braids and cornrows?

Removing your braids takes time and patience – you may decide it’s not for you to do at home and to let a professional do the work. However, if you do decide to remove the braids yourself you will need:

A wide tooth comb
A medium small tooth rattail comb
A hair clamp or duck tail clips (to hold sections of your hair)
A spray bottle containing diluted conditioner or moisturising hair oil)
A towel
A bin for the braids
A mirror
Time and patience!!
Individual Braids- Synthetic Hair
(Natural Braids- The process is the same; however, the conditioning solution
should make removal easier as it was developed to work on human hair.)

Divide into sections
Soften the braids with diluted Sta-Sof-Fro Braids Oil Moisturiser
Take three or four braids in the section and hold together at the ends
Use the medium toothed comb and start combing out the braids.
Work your way slowly up the length of the braids.
When you come to the natural hair comb one braid at a time
If hair is tangled you may have to pick each stitch apart down to the base of the braid
Once all braids are removed gently comb hair through before shampoo and conditioning

Cornrows
Spray cornrows with diluted conditioner or oil
Group a few ends together and use the small toothed rattail comb to gently comb out
Comb out braid until you reach the scalp, then pick cornrow stitch out gently with the front tooth of the comb in downward motion.

Q. Do you have any tips for braids maintenance?

My top tip is once your braids are attached, shampooing of the braids is vital, as it will help to stop the hair and scalp
from drying out and having itchy scalp, caused by build up of oils and gels. Sta-Sof-Fro Braids Spray Shampoo is easy to apply and combines foaming ingredients and polymers to lift and clean away any build up without detangling your braids. When shampooing,
do not pull or cut the braided hair or roots with your fingernails as this will cause your braids to frizz and look untidy. Do not use hot
water, as this will damage the braids and cause frizzing.
